Start Archery

Beginner route

This is the beginner route through Explained Archery. Start with safe handling and bow fit before you worry about upgrades or fine tuning. The pages below use simple diagrams and calculators so the first setup steps are easier to follow.

Step 1: Learn safe handling

Before you chase accuracy, learn how to keep the bow safe on the line and in storage.

If you are planning to practice at home, read Backyard Archery Safety first. For a simple starting range, use Archery Target Distance Chart.

Step 2: Get your bow fit close

Fit comes before fine tuning. If draw length is off, the rest of the setup tends to fight you.

Step 3: Choose a safe starting arrow length

Arrow length matters for safety and consistency, so set it before you chase sight marks.

Step 4: Learn basic shooting form

Once the bow fits and the arrows are right, practice grip, anchor, stance, and simple setup work.

Step 5: Pick a topic hub

Once the basics make sense, use a hub page to keep the topic areas organized.
